Our work with the NHS in Sheffield & across England

Current situations and challenges are clearly increasing pressures on an already stretched workforce and as such, we as Space to Breathe are keen to reach out and help. Over time we’ve developed a range of immediately deployable solutions that have already supported:

  • Patients both with in Primary and Social Care settings, predominantly in emotional regulation, emotional awareness and delivery of techniques like mindfulness.

  • Provided inventions around ‘preventative’ Mental health work, around Autism and Mental health and in Forensic Mental Health that have been acknowledged nationally as exemplars (e.g NHS Mental Health Community Forensic Teams Pilot.)

  • Supported NHS Staff in their wellbeing through webinars, mindfulness sessions, 1:1 work and through online resources.

  • Run creative listening projects to help GP Surgeries deal with the needs of individuals needing mental health support. See our GP Access Project.

Space to Breathe is a Community Interest Company (not for profit) with extensive experience and health and wellbeing resources to support individuals and teams to both be cared for and provided with tools and skills to take better care of themselves.

We are keen to speak with NHS Leaders who are currently looking at innovative and effective ways to support patients in their and also how to support their colleagues and systems through provision of quickly deployable, effective, and high value health and wellbeing support.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

1. SUPPORTING PATIENTS

Space to Breathe are available to offer 1:1 and group work with individuals within the mental health system (either waiting for treatment or to support their ongoing treatment.) We can create packages of support - focused around emotional wellbeing - that involve our Wellbeing Zones sessions (1:1 or group work around emotional regulation), places on courses or teaching of grounding tools and self-care resources. We can also offer Peer Support services.

These initiatives have proved highly effective. For example in our Waiting List support project, over 80% of people saw an improvement in their quality of life and high numbers were able to be discharged. Read the full report here. In the last three years we have worked with over 250 individuals who were working with Social Care services for Mental Health Support. This includes work with Sheffield Health and Social Care, Sheffield Primary Care Mental Health Teams, Sheffield Community Forensic Team, Sheffield Recovery Teams and Sheffield Autism Centre. As well as working in Sheffield we have worked in Birmingham, Manchester and London with NHS Patients.

We can provide a tailored solution to your needs, offer a tried and tested referral system and the highest standard of support. Use the form at the bottom of this page to get in touch.

2. SUPPORTING STAFF

We are also able to help staff through 1:1 support, through online groups and training through our Wellbeing Zones for Organisations or through supplying our Wellbeing Suite library of resources to a department/team. The Wellbeing Suite can be provided to staff in a health setting where we offer the service for free for one month as trial. If the free trial is successful, we can arrange a large organisation rate, group discounts or individual subscriptions depending on need.

This digital wellbeing subscription gives you simple tools and techniques that support you to do this, straight to your inbox every week. We support a number of Yorkshire based organisations this way. One shared:

"Well? is invaluable. It provides our clients with the opportunity to build emotional and psychological resilience, it also provides practical strategies to help pad out their kitbag in readiness for the hard work of counselling. It's reassuring to be able to offer something so useful whilst people are waiting for counselling to start. "
